First Finished Projects of 2015!

Dear friends, my crafts journey has encounter so many troubles along this time, but even like that I managed to knit these cuties. For those whom don't know I have a very rare skin disorder, Epidermolysis Bullosa that causes me a lot of skin trouble... and that including my precious eyes. So, since December I've been fighting to have sight on my right eye. The eye ball tissue is so fragile that I keep injuring it and loose my sight (keeps going and coming back). But hey! That doesn't stop me from doing things, although I confess is quite scary and slows down everything.

Queridas amigas, a minha viagem pelo artesanato tem encontrado tantos problemas ao longo deste tempo, mas ainda assim, consegui tricotar estas fofuras. Para aqueles que não sabem, tenho uma doença de pele rara, Epidermólise Bolhosa, que me causa muitos sarilhos... incluindo nos meus olhos preciosos. Então, desde de Dezembro que tenho lutado por ver da minha vista direita. O tecido ocular é tão frágil que me tenho magoado constantemente e perdido a visão (vai e volta). Mas hei! Isto não me faz parar de produzir coisas, embora confesse que é bastante assustador e torna tudo muito mais lento.

Knitting away! Finished projects

Many months ago, I purchased a vintage knitting machine, pink and cream, a real cutie. It came with broken pieces and the needles were totally rusty - a mess. With patience, I token it all apart, clean it, fixed all the broken pieces, toke the rust of the needles, et voilá! Working again :)

Há muitos meses atrás, comprei uma máquina vintage de tricotar, rosa e creme, um amor. Veio com peças partidas e as agulhas estavam com imensa ferrugem - uma desgraça. Com paciência, abri a máquina, limpei, arranjei as peças partidas, tirei a ferrugem das agulhas, et voilá! A trabalhar :)

Everything is very slow, we still have to make many things manually on this Singer Magic Memory

Have I ever machine knitted? Nup, never had a knitting machine on my hands before. I'm just curious like a cat! ... oh dear, talking about felinus just reminded me of my dream from last night - a massive jaguar entered our house and I got really brave and dominated the beast, can you believe it? hahaha :o) . Anyway, back to reality, here is my first attempt on jumper, after the machine being sitting there for many months without use. The pattern came from amazing knitter Lucy, that runs the blog 1940's Style For You, that kindly gave this pattern away on her blog. Because was my first garment on the knitting machine, I got the gauge wrong and the sweater is a little too big for me. So, I intend to cut and sew to learn this technic that I never used before, and that can be quite handy... but I hadn't courage yet! I need to add shoulder padds once is ready, to look like the original, although I made the neck line and sleeves different from the original. It's lovely but doesn't fit!

Já alguma vez tricotei à máquina? Não, nunca tive uma máquina de tricotar em mãos. Mas sou curiosa como os gatos! ... Falando em felinos, lembrei-me do sonho de ontem à noite - um jaguar enorme entrou na nossa casa e eu ganhei coragem e fiquei muito valente dominando a besta, acreditam? hahaha :o) . De qualquer modo, voltando à realidade, aqui está a minha primeira tentativa numa camisola, após a máquina ter ficando a um canto meses sem uso. A receita veio da fantástica tricotadeira Lucy, do blogue 1940's Style For You, que simpaticamente deu esta receita no seu blogue. Por ser a minha primeira peça tricotada à máquina, errei o tamanho dela e ficou um pouco grande para mim. Por isso, tenho intenção de a cortar e cozer, para aprender esta técnica que nunca usei antes, mas que pode ser bastante útil... mas ainda não tive coragem! Preciso de adicionar enchumaços quando estiver pronta, para parecer mais com a original, embora tenha feito o decote e as mangas diferentes do original. É amorosa mas não me serve!

Other project that was finished was a cute striped cardigan, with a matching skirt and long stockings. The cardigan and long stockings were based on vintage patterns from the 40s, adapted to Bunny's idea. Bunny Rogers, an artist from New York City, USA, wore it at her exhibition closing in Berlin. I saw some of her things and she is an incredible young artist. She has a huge heart and beautiful soul, and that appears on her art. I love you Bunny! <3 :)

Outro projeto acabado foi um casaquinho muito fofo às risca, com uma saia a combinar e meias altas. O Casaco e as meias foram baseados em receitas dos anos 40 adaptadas à ideia da Bunny. A Bunny Rogers, é uma artista de Nova Iorque, dos EUA, usou este conjunto para o fecho da sua exibição em Berlim. Vi algumas coisas dela e ela é uma jovem artista incrível. Tem um enorme coração e uma alma linda, que transparence na arte dela. Amo-te Bunny! <3 :)

Gosh... it was a long time since I wrote my last blog post. After dad passed away I froze and couldn't socialize for a long time. I dove deep into a dark blue water of a vast Ocean and was there for a long time. But I made some crafting. I've been knitting, sewing, reading and praying. Thank God I wasn't depressed, I was just very introspective. That happens sometimes with me, when I need to put everything into perspective.

Meu Deus... já faz bastante tempo desde a última vez que escrevi aqui no blog. Depois do meu pai ter falecido, congelei e não consegui socializar por muito tempo. Mergulhei bem fundo num vasto Oceano de água azul escura e fiquei lá por muito tempo. Mas fiz algumas coisas. Tenho tricotado, costurado, lido e orado. Graças a Deus não fiquei depressiva, somente bastante introspectiva. O que acontece algumas vezes comigo quando preciso colocar tudo em perspectiva.

I thought it was the right decision to post about this dress now. The day my dad passed away I was sewing this dress when the phone rang... So, I couldn't finish this project for a very long time because it just reminded me of the pain that I went through on that day that my dear father left us.

Pensei que seria a escolha certa postar sobre este vestido agora. No dia em que o meu pai faleceu estava a costurar este vestido quando o telefone tocou... Portanto, não consegui terminar este projecto por muito tempo, porque simplesmente lembrava-me a dor que passei no dia em que o meu pai nos deixou.

Three months later here it is, the finished project. This is my second sewing project and my very first dress! I encountered many difficulties and I think I should chosen a easier dress. But now it's done, and to tell the truth I'm quite satisfied with the final result. But oh boy... if I need to master those lines! :O)

Três meses depois aqui está ele, o projecto terminado. Este é o meu segundo projecto de costura e o meu primeiríssimo vestido! Encontrei muitas dificuldades e penso que devia ter escolhido um vestido mais simples. Mas agora está feito, e para dizer a verdade estou bastante satisfeita com o resultado final. Mas menina... se preciso dominar aquelas linhas! :O)

The dress is the scalloped edge one from Simplicity 1668, from the forties. Is feminine and fun!

O vestido é o das bordas recortadas da Simplicity 1668, dos anos 40. É feminino e divertido!

I planned to show you each step while I was sewing it. But I lost all my will power, my dear readers. Sorry. But you can see above how I spread the pieces and then I traced them out on the fabric with a pencil.

Planeava mostrar todos os passos do projecto em quanto fazia. Mas perdi a vontade toda, meus queridos leitores. Desculpem. Mas podem ver em cima como espalhei os moldes e depois tracei no tecido com lápis.

The fabric is a lovely medium weight cotton. Easy to cut and to sew. And the flowers are so lovely!

O tecido é de um algodão maravilhoso. Fácil de cortar e de costurar. E as flores são tão queridas!

One of the difficult parts for me was doing the gatherings. But it was fun to learn!

Uma das partes dificeis para mim foi fazer os franzidos. Mas foi bastante divertido de aprender!

I would like to have taken photographs outdoors in the garden but has been gray sky and rainy. But on the next Spring I will have more opportunities. I can wear these accessories above, hat, purse, shoes, belt and flowers on my hair of course! One of my favorite hats are the conical ones from the 40s and 50s! This one is vintage of course. Looks well with a cute straw purse like the one shown above, vintage inspiration.

Gostaria de ter tirado fotografias num jardim lá fora, mas o tempo tem estado cinzento e de chuva. Mas na próxima Primavera terei mais oportunidades. Poderei usar com estes accessórios em cima, chapéu, mala, sapatos, cinto e flores no cabelo claro! Um dos meus chapéus favoritos são os cónicos dos anos 40 e 50! Este é vintage claro. Fica bem com malas de palha como esta em cima, de inspiração vintage.

Certainly this dress will be one that has a strong mark on it. Is my first dress as a sewing project and will carry strong memories with it. Let's see which type of memory and what new feelings will bring me next year!

Certamente este vestido será sempre marcante para mim. É o meu primeiro vestido como projecto de costura e carrega memórias fortes com ele. Vamos ver que tipo de memória e que novos sentimentos trará para o próximo ano!

Free Knitting Pattern

I love my vintage Stitchcraft magazines and today I would like to share with you one of my favourite patterns, for a gorgeous and playful jumper. This one is on my list to knit! I love the look of this red and white jumper and I can imagine wearing this beauty with a lovely 1930s/40s blue Marine pair of wide leg slacks. This is from my own magazine from May of 1949.

Amo as minhas revistas antigas Stitchcraft e hoje gostaria de partilhar convosco uma das minhas receitas favoritas, para uma esplêndida e divertida camisola. Esta, está na minha lista de tricotar! Gosto muito do visual desta camisola vermelha e branca e posso imaginar-me a usar esta beleza com um belo par de calças largas de Azul marinho de 1930s/40s. É de uma revista minha de Maio de 1949.
