Knitting away! Finished projects

Many months ago, I purchased a vintage knitting machine, pink and cream, a real cutie. It came with broken pieces and the needles were totally rusty - a mess. With patience, I token it all apart, clean it, fixed all the broken pieces, toke the rust of the needles, et voilá! Working again :)

A trabalhar :)
Everything is very slow, we still have to make many things manually on this Singer Magic Memory

Have I ever machine knitted? Nup, never had a knitting machine on my hands before. I'm just curious like a cat! ... oh dear, talking about felinus just reminded me of my dream from last night - a massive jaguar entered our house and I got really brave and dominated the beast, can you believe it? hahaha :o) . Anyway, back to reality, here is my first attempt on jumper, after the machine being sitting there for many months without use. The pattern came from amazing knitter Lucy, that runs the blog 1940's Style For You, that kindly gave this pattern away on her blog. Because was my first garment on the knitting machine, I got the gauge wrong and the sweater is a little too big for me. So, I intend to cut and sew to learn this technic that I never used before, and that can be quite handy... but I hadn't courage yet! I need to add shoulder padds once is ready, to look like the original, although I made the neck line and sleeves different from the original. It's lovely but doesn't fit!

Other project that was finished was a cute striped cardigan, with a matching skirt and long stockings. The cardigan and long stockings were based on vintage patterns from the 40s, adapted to Bunny's idea. Bunny Rogers, an artist from New York City, USA, wore it at her exhibition closing in Berlin. I saw some of her things and she is an incredible young artist. She has a huge heart and beautiful soul, and that appears on her art. I love you Bunny! <3 :)

Another Miss Marple´s sweet key-hole scarf was made for lovely Amy from Dallas, USA! Thank you Amy :)

Obrigada Amy :)

I also made a sweet garment for my dear friend Jessica from Chronically Vintage Blog... But that, you will have to wait to see it! She will be posting on her blog in some time after the festivities, yeah! ;o)

I wish you an incredible gorgeous week!
Desejo a todos uma incrível e deslumbrante semana!

  2. Ooo, that sweater looks fabulous! I have been fascinated with knitting machines, but they are super hard to find in Australia, and really expensive to boot. So I will watch your creations with the knitter and enjoy! Very beautiful, and great work for your first time! ♡

    1. Hi Bonita! Thank you so much :)
Yeah, I know what you mean, in Portugal knitting machines are very hard to find too and super expensive. I bought this one on Ebay for a very cheap price, it came from UK. Because it was so cheap I had a big chance of a not working machine. As the seller didn´t know a thing about it. But it was my chance to have one, I did take my shot in the dark really. I love hand knitting, but I think vintage machines are very pretty and both can complement each other very well.

I made a lot of net search before I knitted that jumper. And made lots of calculations... even like that weren't enough, hey! :o)

    1. Hi Esther! I remember your gorgeous top in that sew along! :)

I know what you mean being afraid. Mine was sat there for so long! I thought, well or I get to use it or I get to sell it. Something needs to be done.

Don't be afraid. Just try to make a lot of swatches and experiment a lot. Search on youtube for some tutorials to begin your adventure. If I can help you in anything just send me an email. I'm always ready to help if I can! ;-)

  4. That jumper is so gorgeous! It's a shame about the fit, but it looks like an amazing job for a first try using the machine! Well done :)

  5. Ooohh, that coral pink sweater is so lovely! I think you did fantastic for your first time working with a knitting machine. Way to go, dear gal! Adding shoulder pads will definitely help it fit a bit better and up the 40s factor big time. I can just picture how beautiful that colour must look on you with your fair hued skin and dark locks.

Thank you sweetly for the lovely mention. I'm super looking forward to sharing about your awesome creation for me on my blog in January. Much as with the Miss Marple scarf, it instantly became a cornerstone of my cold weather wardrobe (I was sporting the new item again this past weekend while at my parent's house).

Big hugs & the very happiest of holiday season wishes, dear Beta!

      Amei a visita!
